The Tournament is organised by the Portuguese Croquet Federation at the First Croquet Club in Portugal, on the Algarve

Bela Romao currently has one full-size lawn, but is planning to create a second for 2016. If ready in time, the entry limits will be raised to the numbers shown in brackets below.

The 2nd Open Portuguese Croquet (GC) Championship

 

• Singles GC

• Participation limited to 16 players (24 if 2 lawns available)

• 4 blocks of four (six), followed by a Knock-Out leading to the Final, plus Plate event

• Double banking, apart from semi-finals and finals. Time limits will apply. Dawson Balls

Inaugural Doubles Championship

 

• Doubles GC

• Participation limited to 16 pairs

• Draw and Process with Best of 3 final between the Draw and the Process winners (if 2 lawns available, may be Best of 3 throughout – format to be decided).

• Double banking, apart from final. Time limits will apply. Dawson Balls

• Enter with or without a partner; the Manager will pair-up players without a named partner 2016

Entry fees – Open Championship 30 EUR per person; Doubles Championship 15 EUR per person

• Accommodation – Quinta Madresilva next to the Club. Other Villas & hotels within 10 km distance.  See attached accommodation packages

• Deadlines for entries: Allocation Date of 30th April 2016. Entries received before the Allocation Date will be held and considered together on 30th April – no entries will be confirmed before the Allocation Date.

Priority will be given to entrants from a country which is taking part in the 2016 European Croquet Masters.

Open Championship: On the Allocation Date the best-ranked players will be allocated places, along with the current trophy holder.

A limit of 4 players per country will be set initially. If any places remain on Allocation Date, the limit of 4 per country will be lifted and remaining places will be filled in order of ranking.

Places may be reserved for 2 local players. After the Allocation Date, if the event is not already full, further entries will be accepted in order of receipt.

Doubles Championship: On the Allocation Date, priority will be given to players allocated places in the Open Championship; thereafter entries accepted in order of receipt.

• Please indicate if you wish to be put on the reserve list if initially unsuccessful.

Tuesday 6th September

• Arrival for those playing in Doubles

• Lawn available for practice

• Informal welcome cocktail and dinner (Euros 25.00 with Glass wine/soft drink)

Wednesday 7th September

• Opening ceremony

• Doubles Draw matches, and first round of Process

Thursday 8th September

• Doubles Process matches

• Doubles Final between Draw and Process winners

• Arrival for those not playing in Doubles

• Lawn available for practice towards the end of the day

Friday, 9th September

• Open Championship Block Play

Saturday, 8th September

• Open Championship Block play

• Official tournament dinner (Euros 25.00 with Glass wine/soft drink)

Sunday, 9th September

• Knock-out through to Final and Plate event

• Winners award ceremony

• Informal farewell cocktail

Please note: the doubles final could finish as late as 5pm on Thursday 8th and the Open Championship Final could finish as late as 5pm on Sunday 11th. If flying home immediately, please allow for this.

 

Notes

Average daytime temperature in the first half of September is around 23 during the day and 17 at night with high probability of sunshine. Bela Romao Croquet Country Club is situated 20 Km/ 20 minutes from Faro Airport, overlooking the Ria Formosa and the Atlantic Ocean and Cerro de S Miguel Mountain as backdrop. Nearby is the lovely and ancient town of Tavira and the Fishing Villages of Fuzeta and Olhão.

Lisbon and Seville are but 2 hours away.

Participants are welcome to spend additional days in The Algarve or elsewhere before or after the tournament.

1 Room per person per night 100 Euros minimum 3 nights

1 Room 2 persons sharing 120 Euros minimum 3 nights

Weekly package for 2 persons 700 Euros

Day passes at the Club to be purchased in advance for Culinary delights by resident Chef from the Culinary Institute of America

Breakfast 10 Euros; Lunch 15 Euros; Dinner 30 Euros. The Villa is within its own beautiful grounds next door to the Club.

Rates shown are per apartment and include a buffet style breakfast for the corresponding number of guests:

One bedroom apartment - 116 euro per night (based on single occupancy)

One Bedroom apartment - 142 euro per night ( based on 2 guests sharing)

Three Bedroom apartment - 194 euro per night (based on 4 guests sharing)

Three Bedroom apartment - 220 euro per night (based on 5 guests sharing)

Three bedroom apartment - 246 euro per night (based on 6 guests sharing)

Maragota is 8 minutes away by car from Bela Romao Croquet Club

 

General information

All prices include IVA. Accommodation at the Club is dealt with the Club and directly at Maragota. There are plenty of other villas and accommodation available locally

 

Other activities

Spouses and partners and Guests can step away from Croquet and enjoy the swimming pool and loungers, bar, club house and restaurant and play petang, or enjoy the library, watch TV or movies or go into the local villages.

Locally we have beach of Fuseta which is 5 minutes away and where all kinds of water activities take place, from leisurely cruises along the Ria Formosa, bird and flamingo watching to long boarding, kayaking, dolphin watching, cycling, walking , horse riding, or simply good food and fish in our local restaurants. Olhão and its lovely market is a car ride away as well as the Historical Towns of Tavira and Faro.

Medical: massage will be available as well as local Osteopath
